The Hellenic Navy officially received its first FDI HN-class frigate, the HS Kimon (F-601), which arrived in Greece on January 15, 2026, via the Saronic Gulf.

The ceremony marked a historic moment for the country, gathering top political and military authorities, including President Konstantinos Tasoulas and Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

During the event, Defense Minister Nikos Dendias stated that the HS Kimon represents the most powerful frigate in the world in its current configuration, highlighting its central role in protecting Greek sovereignty and deterring any threats. According to him, the ship strengthens national security and symbolizes the definitive entry of the Greek Armed Forces into a new technological era.

Dendias also emphasized that within the 2030 Agenda, the Armed Forces are undergoing a structural transformation, evolving from merely a set of weapon systems into a force based on knowledge, data integration, risk management, and rapid crisis response. In this context, the HS Kimon emerges as a central platform of a unified and modern system.

Built by Naval Group, the 4,500-ton frigate has full capabilities in anti-ship, anti-air, anti-submarine, and special operations domains, along with advanced sensors from Thales. Heavily armed with Aster and Exocet missiles, MU90 torpedoes, and close-in defense systems, the HS Kimon consolidates itself as one of the most advanced warships in today’s European fleet.
